Fernando was born in Fiano, a small village near Lucca, Italy, and emigrated to the United States in 1955. After graduating from high school in Watsonville, CA in 1970, he attended Salesian schools in Pinerolo and Pietrasanta, Italy. Fernando obtained his higher education and degree in landscape architecture from U.C. Berkeley College of Environmental Design. He became licensed in the field and worked as a professional in the field of landscape architecture and urban design until his retirement in 2014.
Fernando has always loved the arts and longed to become a full-time painter and artist. In June, 2014, he made the life-changing decision to become a full-time painter. His work focuses on the immediacy of plein air painting, capturing the beauty of the California landscape, and also the beauty of places he visits when he travels abroad. He is passionate about painting En Plein Air and finds his new career as an artist to be an enriching vocation.
Fernando is an active member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) and is especially proud of his work mentoring grade school students through the LPAPA Plein Air Project headed by Jeff Sewell.
