Orange County Grand Canyon
12 x 16 x 0.25 in., oil on archival linen hardboard
This is a scene in from an area called The Sinks. It is informally known as "Orange County's Grand Canyon." It is a giant sinkhole formed in Limestone Canyon, part of Orange County Parks, east of Irvine, CA. I volunteer for the Irvine Ranch Conservancy as a trail guide to help guide hiking and painting tours of the area. I have been itching to paint this scene at sunset since I first saw it. I love the vast expanse that opens up in front of you, the dramatic rock faces, and the warm glow of the golden hours light in this scene. This is a very special place. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it!
